'Digital' means it's all done by the computer doesn't it?

The simple and straightforward answer is no.

It is interesting to know that a revered artist such as David Hockney now uses a computer to produce his work and this is what he said in a recent interview:

"Most people thought they knew what 'computer art' looked like, but of course that is like saying they know what 'brush art' looks like.  It is daft.  What did Leonardo use to paint the Mona Lisa?  Well, he used brushes; so if I get a brush I can do that, can I?  No!  A brush, like a computer is merely a tool."

What is giclee printing?

Giclée is the term for a fine art digital print. Before the advent of fine art quality digital prints the vast majority of fine art prints were made using offset lithography. Giclée is the French word for 'squirt', as this is the way that the ink is applied to the paper or canvas. Giclée prints have become an established part of the print trade in the UK since about 1999.

All my pictures are printed on to archival quality fine art paper or canvas using state of the art printing technology which conforms to the the Fine Art Trade Guild Standards thereby ensuring the highest possible print quality.

What is the turnaround time when I place an order?

I try to keep this time to a minimum but if you allowed 10 working days from order to despatch that would be about right.

How easy is it to commission a picture?

It's quite straightforward - first of all get in touch by phone or email and we can discuss the details of what you are looking for. Then I will either email you or call you with a cost and timescale. If you decide to go ahead then I will require a 50% deposit before work commences. Before the picture is finally put onto canvas or paper a sample A4 print will be made at which time you can make any small adjustments so that you can be sure you will be satisfied with the finished giclée print.

When I buy a print can I make a copy for a friend?

No you can't and further details about this particular subject can be found in the menu on the left under the Copyright link. However, if you purchase more than one print of the same subject I will give you a substantial discount when you place the order for the additional copies at the same time - please get in touch to discuss the details.
