Commissioning works

We all know how it should work between artist and commissioner but for the avoidance of any doubt here are some notes that will help us both.  But if you have any questions please get in touch.

Definitions:

The commissioned work is any photograph, picture, illustration or graphic design and derivatives therefrom as ordered by the client.
The commissioned work will be made by Ian F Williams with such other assistance if or as he deems necessary to deliver the commissioned work as required by the client.  The client is the person or entity making the commission.

The Process:

1.  A meeting between Ian F Williams and the client will be required to discuss detailed aspects of the commission after which time a written estimate of the finished cost will be supplied by Ian F Williams.   This estimated cost will remain current for a period of 28 days from the date of the estimate.

2.  A written order from the client, acknowledging the scope of work outlined in the estimate, agreeing to the estimated cost will be required to enable work to commence.

3.  A 50% payment of the estimated cost must accompany the written order.  No work will be undertaken without such payment being received.

4. Payment of the balance of the final cost of the work will be required on delivery of the commissioned work.  A final invoice will be issued 7 days prior to delivery of the work. Until full payment for the commissioned work is received the said work may not be published in any form whatsoever.  The work remains the sole property of Ian F Williams until full payment has been made.

5. The estimated cost of the commissioned work will be given in good faith and barring any changes required by the client or other influences outside the reasonable control of Ian F Williams it will be the final cost.  However, changes to the commission, once the work has started, may affect the final cost.  All such changes must be agreed with Ian F Williams and he must be notified in writing otherwise it cannot be guaranteed that the changes will be made.

6. The copyright in all commissioned work will remain with Ian F Williams unless agreed in writing with the client prior to any work being started.

The edition size will not be increased under any circumstance

Ian F Williams reserves the right to make up to 5 artist's proof in any edition.

By purchasing a print no rights are transferred to the buyer other than the right to display the said print.
